SPECjbb2005 (Java Server Benchmark) is SPEC's benchmark for evaluating the performance of server side Java. SPECjbb2005 evaluates the performance of server side Java by emulating a three-tier client/server system (with emphasis on the middle tier). The benchmark exercises the implementations of the JVM (Java Virtual Machine), JIT (Just-In-Time) compiler, garbage collection, threads and some aspects of the operating system. It also measures the performance of CPUs, caches, memory hierarchy and the scalability of shared memory processors (SMPs). SPECjbb2005 provides a new enhanced workload, implemented in a more object-oriented manner to reflect how real-world applications are designed and introduces new features such as XML processing and BigDecimal computations to make the benchmark a more realistic reflection of today's applications. SPECjvm2008 Website

SPECjvm2008 (Java Virtual Machine Benchmark) is a benchmark suite for measuring the performance of a Java Runtime Environment (JRE), containing several real life applications and benchmarks focusing on core java functionality. The suite focuses on the performance of the JRE executing a single application; it reflects the performance of the hardware processor and memory subsystem, but has low dependence on file I/O and includes no network I/O across machines. The SPECjvm2008 workload mimics a variety of common general purpose application computations. These characteristics reflect the intent that this benchmark will be applicable to measuring basic Java performance on a wide variety of both client and server systems. MySQL TPC-C An on-line transaction processing benchmark Website

The standard for this benchmark is published by the TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council). The description they provide for this benchmark is provided below. The benchmark we perform uses 10 warehouses, 6 operators, a 60 second warm-up, and a 180 second benchmark. The benchmark value is the # of sustained transactions per second. This benchmark is primarily I/O bound, and thus the results can be interpreted as an indication of disk I/O performance. TPC Benchmark Description: As an OLTP system benchmark, TPC-C simulates a complete environment where a population of terminal operators executes transactions against a database. The benchmark is centered around the principal activities (transactions) of an order-entry environment. These transactions include entering and delivering orders, recording payments, checking the status of orders, and monitoring the level of stock at the warehouses. However, it should be stressed that it is not the intent of TPC-C to specify how to best implement an Order-Entry system. While the benchmark portrays the activity of a wholesale supplier, TPC-C is not limited to the activity of any particular business segment, but, rather, represents any industry that must manage, sell, or distribute a product or service. In the TPC-C business model, a wholesale parts supplier (called the Company below) operates out of a number of warehouses and their associated sales districts. The TPC benchmark is designed to scale just as the Company expands and new warehouses are created. However, certain consistent requirements must be maintained as the benchmark is scaled. Each warehouse in the TPC- C model must supply ten sales districts, and each district serves three thousand customers. An operator from a sales district can select, at any time, one of the five operations or transactions offered by the Company's order-entry system. Like the transactions themselves, the frequency of the individual transactions are modeled after realistic scenarios.

Cloud Speedtest (Cloud to Consumer) performance testing Close

We have created a custom cloud speedtest that allows us to test upload and download throughput as well as latency between generally residential high-speed Internet connections and various cloud services. We employ about 1000 Amazon Mechanical Turk users to run this test from various locations around the world. The results of these tests are stored in our database including the throughput and latency measurements as well as users information including ISP name and user's location (country, state/province, and city).

These servers are configured to regularly test throughput and latency to and from other cloud services including other cloud servers, cloud storage, cloud platforms, and content delivery networks.
